Daughters Of The American Revolution Visit Historical Society

The Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society was pleased to host the local North Riding Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) for their Spring Meeting on April 9th. Past Historical Society President Fred Blumlein gave an informative PowerPoint presentation on the evolution of barns, including the Society’s Dutch American Barn, c. 1690. Afterward the assembled group walked through the historic barn, which had been carefully moved from Sands Point to the Sands-Willets House in the 1970s. The barn is currently undergoing a multi-year project turning it into a full-fledged exhibition space highlighting the Society’s extensive collection of tools used by the people who lived and worked on the Port Washington peninsula, farming and shell fishing.
