Adventures in Learning’s Annual Soirée was Friday, March 22, 2024 at 7PM at Manhasset Bay Yacht Club, 455 Shore Road, Port Washington. This year’s honorees were Mary and Ken McGorry and Paula and Vincent Chiarucci.
With close to 200 people in attendance the event raised over $200,000. More than in 2023! All proceeds go towards funding Adventures’ after-school academic and enrichment programs for underserved Manhasset and Great Neck students. An amazing dinner, prepared by Manhasset Bay’s superb catering staff of themed delicacies paired with selected wines, was enjoyed by all. Afterwards there was dancing to the ever-popular music of DJ Liquid Todd of Sirius XM Radio amongst exquisite décor by Westhampton floral interior designers Debbie and Steve Boehl of Honeysuckle & Roses.
A speech from Rashaun Gardner, 19, a current student at St. John’s University in Queens and 2023 Manhasset High School graduate, was the highlight of the evening. He spoke eloquently and heartfelt about his experience as a participant in Adventures and what it meant to his growth and success in school and life. The entire audience was moved with compassion and pride for Rashaun’s success and appreciation for what he received during his time at Adventures.
Adventures in Learning Board President Kurt Kiess was Master of Ceremonies. Board Member Kristen Ryan of Manhasset conducted the live giving segment of the evening. Executive director Diana Holden led the presentation of awards.
