Pride in Port awards presented to 2024 graduates

By the Pride in Port Committee

The recent Schreiber High School Graduates Awards Ceremony included Pride in Port awards and scholarships. Recipients are chosen based on their proven record of having a high level of “Pride in Port.”

The Barbara Faticone Pride in Port Scholarship is given to a senior who best demonstrates the same volunteer qualities of the Pride in Port committee’s beloved co-chair, Barbara Faticone. A lifelong resident of Port Washington, Barbara’s community involvement spans over 50 years with dozens of organizations.

Benjamin Gordon was chosen to receive the 2024 Barbara Faticone Pride in Port Scholarship due to his dedication to our community.

“It is impressive and heartwarming to learn how many things the students volunteer for while still in school,” Faticone said. “Benjamin truly exemplifies what Pride in Port is all about. We are very proud to honor him.”

This year, the committee created an additional scholarship, the “Rise Up” Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a student who has focused his or her community service activity on a few organizations but has inspired many others to get involved in our community.

The first recipient of the Rise Up Scholarship is Michael Redelick.

“Michael’s leadership skills and enthusiasm have caused numerous other students to become involved. We will never know how much of an impact he has made as a result,” co-chair of the committee, Fred L. Pollack, said.

Pride in Port Community Service Awards are given to seniors who contribute significantly to Pride in Port, such as the pep rally, parade and more. The 2024 Community Service Award recipients are Goldie Abrahams, Juan Carlos Rivas and Benjamin Salit.

The Pride in Port committee thanks and appreciates these students for their exceptional dedication to the community.
