Bellmore

Arrest for Burglary

The NCPD Seventh Squad reports the details of a burglary that occurred on Sunday, July 7 at 2:06 a.m. in Bellmore. According to detectives, officers responded to Clever Smoke and Cigar Shop, located at 2370-A Merrick Road, for a commercial burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined that an unknown male entered the store by breaking the front door. Further investigation revealed that an unknown amount of US currency and cigarettes had been removed from the store. The subject left the scene in a 4-door sedan traveling westbound on Merrick Road. The investigation is ongoing. Detective’s request anyone with information regarding the above incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. Central Nassau County

Arrest for Multiple Burglaries

The NCPD First Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man on Friday, July 5, at 5:00 p.m., for multiple incidents that occurred throughout Nassau County between May 2023 and October 2023. According to detectives, an extensive investigation led to the arrest of Victor S. Garrison Jr, 23, of 18 Robert Street. The investigation revealed that defendant Garrison was responsible for three residential burglaries that occurred on the following dates: September 19, 2023 – Nostrand Avenue, Uniondale, September 21, 2023 – Grand Avenue, Baldwin, and October 2, 2023 – Lincoln Avenue, Roosevelt. Detectives determined that the defendant also removed victims’ credit cards and identifications from multiple automobiles and utilized them to make unauthorized purchases. Defendant Victor S. Garrison Jr is charged with four counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, two counts of third-degree grand larceny, two counts of petit larceny, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, four counts of third-degree identity theft, two counts of third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief. He was arraigned Saturday, July 6, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.

Franklin Square

Arrest for Fireworks

The NCPD Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of two Franklin Square men for an incident that occurred on Thursday, July 4, at 6:18 p.m. in Franklin Square. According to detectives, Nicholas Moschonas, 33, of 516 3rd Street was observed setting off fireworks on the corner of 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue. Upon further investigation, a 2019 Dodge RAM belonging to Peter Mari, 33, of 905 Hancock Avenue, was discovered with numerous boxes of fireworks inside the vehicle. Both defendant Moschonas and defendant Mari were placed into custody without further incident. Subsequent to the investigation, detectives seized 14 cases of fireworks. For the safety and security of all residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue their zero-tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks. The Nassau County Police Department reminds its residents that the use of explosives, including fireworks, is illegal and extremely dangerous. Defendant Nicholas Moschonas is charged with explosives – licenses and certificates, explosives – storage, unlawfully selling fireworks and reckless endangerment. Defendant Peter Mari is charged with explosives – licenses and certificates. They were arraigned on Friday, July 5, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.

Levittown

Residential Fire Caused by Fireworks

The NCPD Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of a Levittown man for causing a fire on Thursday, July 4, at 8:50 a.m. in Levittown. According to detectives, officers responded to 128 Red Maple Drive North for reports of a fire. Upon further investigation, it was determined that defendant Karamjit Singh, 33, of 128 Red Maple Drive North supplied an 11-year-old juvenile with fireworks and instructed the child to ignite them. The firework malfunctioned and caused a detached shed within the yard to ignite and become engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the defendant’s dwelling and a neighboring home, located at 122 Red Maple Drive North. Wantagh Fire Department responded and extinguished the fires. The defendant’s residence also housed a tenant on the second floor who was displaced due to the damages. Both homes suffered extensive damage, but there were no injuries reported. Defendant Singh was arrested without incident, and the 11-year-old juvenile was released to a family member. Nassau County Fire Marshals were on the scene to investigate. Defendant Singh is charged with two counts of fourth-degree arson, second-degree reckless endangerment, unlawfully selling fireworks to a person under 18, unlawfully possessing fireworks, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned on Friday, July 5, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.

Massapequa

Residential Fire

The NCPD Arson Bomb Squad reports the details of a residential fire that occurred on Thursday, July 4, at 5:15 p.m. in Massapequa. According to detectives, officers responded to a house fire on Michigan Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a portion of the home in flames. The Massapequa Fire Department responded to extinguish the flames, assisted by multiple surrounding fire departments. The Nassau County Fire Marshall also responded. The fire damaged a section of the home. There were no injuries reported at the scene.

Wantagh

Water Emergency

The NCPD Public Information Office reports the details of a water emergency that occurred on Sunday, July 7, at 4:21 p.m. in Wantagh. According to police, 911 received a call for a 47-year-old male who dove off the front of his vessel into the shallow water in Zach’s Bay and struck his head, injuring his neck. Nassau County Marine Bureau located the victim and transported him to the Jones Beach Theater, where he was airlifted via Nassau County Aviation Helicopter 6 to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment. 

Westbury

Arrest for Reckless Endangerment & Firework Possession

The NCPD Public Information Office reports the arrest of three individuals for an incident that occurred on Monday, July 8, at 2:10 a.m. in Westbury. According to police, a third precinct officer was traveling northbound on the Meadowbrook State Parkway when he observed a vehicle shooting fireworks out of its sunroof. A vehicle and traffic law stop was conducted in the vicinity of exit M2. After a thorough investigation, all three occupants of the vehicle, Frederick Taveras Hernandez, 19, of 22 Kendig Place, Hempstead, Justin Padilla, 18, of 85 Belmont Parkway, Hempstead and Fernando Aristides, 19, of 1004 Alexander Avenue, Uniondale, were placed into police custody without incident. For the safety and security of all residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue their zero-tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks. The NCPD reminds its residents that the use of explosives, including fireworks, is illegal and extremely dangerous. All three defendants were charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of fireworks. Defendant Hernandez was also issued numerous traffic summons. All three defendants were issued appearance tickets returnable to First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead, on Tuesday, July 30.
