East Hills mayor joins new law firm

East Hills Mayor Michael R. Koblenz announced last week he is joining Westerman Ball Ederer Miller Zucker & Sharfstein LLP, a business law firm located in Uniondale, New York.

“Mayor Koblenz has made outstanding contributions to the local community. He is an excellent lawyer whom I have had the privilege of knowing for many years, and we are excited to expand our Firm with the addition of his expertise in these practice areas,” said Greg S. Zucker, the firm’s co-managing partner.

Koblenz spent 43 years as a senior partner on Wall Street. Having served as a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice, Koblenz also has significant trial experience, including high-stakes commercial and white-collar criminal cases.

When the opportunity arose to work on Long Island, Koblenz said it was a pretty easy decision. “The main name partners live around the corner from me. I’ve known them for a long time. They’re all good guys. When we started talking about [joining together], it made a lot of sense.”

In his 30-plus years as mayor, Koblenz has spearheaded several local development projects, including acquiring and constructing the Village of East Hills Park and Pool. The mayor said he is looking forward to continuing to work locally.

“I’m hoping to establish more business on Long Island now that I’m based out here,” Koblenz said. “It’s a different practice out here than it is in Manhattan.”

He said being so close to his clients will allow him to schedule faster, more efficient meetings with them, as he no longer has to commute to the city.
