A group of 43 accomplished seniors from The Wheatley School in the East Williston Union Free School District have earned the prestigious New York State Seal of Biliteracy. The distinction is given to graduating seniors who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages, including English.
In addition, eight of those students earned a New York State Seal of Biliteracy in two languages other than English. The group of students earned the distinction for their proficiency in Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese, Croatian, Farsi, and Tamil. Senior Julia Savy reflected on her language learning journey and earning the Seal of Biliteracy.
“Language learning is one of the best things one could ever do for themselves,” Savy said. “Not only does this help with your future career, but it also opens a whole world of possibilities. You could study abroad in a different country, make friends with people who have lived different lives, and become a different and better person. Language can give you the confidence to succeed in life and most importantly to never be afraid of failure.”
