Syosset resident dies in motorcycle accident

Michael Rampanelli was pronounced dead at the scene of a motorcycle accident on Sunday, Sept. 15.

According to Nassau County police, a motorcyclist was driving southbound on Berry Hill Road in Oyster Bay Cove. Rampanelli entered the northbound lane while traveling south and collided with a Kia Forte, police said.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Michael Rampanelli, 21, from Syosset.

Rampanelli suffered serious injuries and was pronoucned dead at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported from the collision.

Rampanelli graduated from Syosset High School in 2021, where he was captain of the Varsity Wrestling Team.

The Syosset Board of Education observed a moment of silence for Rampanelli at its Sept. 17 meeting.

In a message to the district, Superintendent Thomas Rogers said: “Michael’s passing will be felt deeply by the many people in our community who know the Rampanelli family, and I have been amazed by the outpouring of support that has already coalesced around them.”

“It’s just a terrible, terrible thing,” said Charles Goulding, mayor of Oyster Bay Cove.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the Rampanelli family and all those who, like ourselves, are grieving alongside them,” Rogers said.
