Kicking off the month is the “Gallery of Hope” Art Exhibit, held on Oct. 5, at the Hicksville Public Library, located at 169 Jerusalem Ave., Hicksville. The exhibit will feature powerful artwork created by survivors, using art to amplify voices and stories that too often go unheard. This thought-provoking exhibit provides a platform for survivors to express their journeys of healing and empowerment. The event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact [email protected] or 516-450-5429.

The Safe Center will host its Annual Gala on Oct. 24, at the Nassau County Museum of Art, located at One Museum Drive in Roslyn. The event will gather supporters, advocates, and community leaders to reflect on the progress made and to continue championing the fight against domestic violence. The event will feature a keynote by Alicia Santandreu, one of the first domestic abuse survivors served by The Safe Center after its creation in 2014. The evening will support The Safe Center’s mission to provide resources, education, and services to those affected by abuse. Tickets are available here.

Rounding out the month’s activities, The Safe Center will offer community and school training throughout the month. Groups or individuals interested in attending or organizing a training can contact [email protected].

“This is a month to recognize and celebrate the remarkable efforts of community champions who stand by survivors. Their dedication and compassion inspire positive transformations, fostering a safer and more supportive community for all,” said Joshua Hanson Executive Director of The Safe Center. “This year, as we mark The Safe Center’s 10th Anniversary, we pay tribute to our expert staff, dedicated volunteers, community partners, and visionary leaders. Thank you to everyone—both newcomers and long-time supporters—who have supported us over the past decade as we tirelessly serve our community.”

In the past year, The Safe Center has responded to 6,195 hotline calls and assisted 3,819 survivors impacted by Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking and Child Sexual & Severe Physical Abuse. More than 27-thousand people have attended educational trainings raising awareness on how to recognize, respond to and prevent future incidents of abuse.
