Herricks High School students receive LIAA Scholar-Artist awards

The Long Island Arts Alliance recognized two Herricks High School seniors with Scholar-Artists awards. Maya Martin received an Award of Merit in photography in the Media Arts category and cellist Constantine Cheung was recognized as a Scholar-Artist in the Music category.

“Both Constantine and Maya exemplify the talent and dedication of Herricks students,” district director of Fine and Performing Arts Anissa Arnold said. “Constantine is a leader in our chamber orchestra’s cello section, in addition to being selected for the NYSSMA All-State Orchestra. Maya’s photography has been a constant presence in our school and has won several awards in the Long Island art community. I am very proud of both of these talented students.”

LIAA’s Scholar-Artist Awards recognize students determined to be “the best of the best” on Long Island in both academics and the arts. The program is endorsed by the New York State School Music Association, the New York State Art Teachers Association, the Nassau and Suffolk chapters of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education and the Nassau and Suffolk Art Supervisors Associations.
