Long Island Sharks with the Fish Guy

7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. We’re celebrating Shark Week with local wildlife photographer, writer and lecturer, Chris Paparo from Fish Guy Photos. Long Island’s coastal waters have an abundance of sharks, all of which we know very little about. In 2015, a small group of researchers were the first to deploy a satellite tag on a juvenile great white shark off Long Island’s south shore. A partnership with OCEARCH enabled them to tag an additional 20 white sharks off Montauk. Learn about the continued work of the Shark Research and Education Program of the South Fork Natural History Museum with this multimedia presentation. This event is hosted by the Hicksville Public Library, 169 Jerusalem Ave. Register online in advance to reserve your spot.

Free Child ID Card Program

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, in partnership with Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Nassau County Legislator James Kennedy, and the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, is holding a FREE Operation Safe Child ID Card Program from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Marjorie Post Pool in Massapequa. Information on each card includes the child’s name, birthdate, age, gender, hair and eye color, height and weight, fingerprints, and a high-resolution digital photo. The program is free and open to Nassau County residents only. The ID cards will be produced on site and available in minutes. No appointment is necessary.
