Great Neck Public Schools Class Of 2024

Great Neck Public Schools celebrated the class of 2024 this week. The village school held their commencement on June 24, while John L. Miller-Great Neck North High School and William A. Shine-Great Neck South High School held their ceremonies at the Tilles Center on the Long Island University C.W. Post campus June 25. 

John L. Miller Great Neck North High School

On June 25, 263 students graduated from North High School. The graduation ceremony was held at the Tilles Center on the Long Island University C.W. Post Campus. The North High School Valedictorian was Zachary Hyman and the Salutatorian was Jonathan Sanders.

Valedictorian Hyman and Salutatorian Sanders were awarded the Frederic Duclos Barstow Award. Recipients of the Frederic Duclos Barstow Award must be in the top 10 percent of their class and be “outstanding in leadership, citizenship, scholarship, and service.” Each recipient receives a monetary prize.

Valedictorian Hyman also won the 2024 Alan L. Gleitsman Outstanding Graduate Award.  Winners must place within the top 10 percent of their graduating class, uphold a high level of quality involvement in student activities, be dedicated to the school and the well-being of fellow students, and have a commitment to pursue further education on the college level.

North High graduate Dylan Yaghoutiel won the 2024 Genelle B. Taney Award. The recipient possesses a combination of these qualities: an unsurpassed love of knowledge, a dedication to the arts, a passion for athletics, and an endless commitment to the betterment of the school and their fellow classmates. The Award is based solely on merit. One-quarter of the Award must be contributed by the recipient to a charity of his/her choice, subject to the approval of the Award trustees. The Award was established in Genelle’s memory in 2006.

William A. Shine Great Neck South High School

On June 25, 312 students graduated from South High School. The graduation ceremony was held at the Tilles Center on the Long Island University C.W. Post Campus. The South High School Valedictorian was Lillian Lin and the Salutatorian was Kira Nguyen. 

Dana Li and Nicholas Yeung were awarded the Frederic Duclos Barstow Award. Recipients of the Frederic Duclos Barstow Award must be in the top 10 percent of their class and be “outstanding in leadership, citizenship, scholarship, and service.” Each recipient receives a monetary prize.

Alex Dorf was awarded the Scott D. Moss Memorial Award. The Scott Moss Award is given to the graduating senior who exemplifies the “service, concern, interest, and ability of Scott Moss.”

The Village School

On June 25, the Village School hosted its graduation for the class of 2024 at the Village School. There were 17 graduates from The Village School.
