Blood Pressure Screenings

Have your blood pressure checked by a clinical nurse, free of charge from 12 p.m.to 2 p.m. in the Station Branch small room.  Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, affects an astounding one in four American adults. This condition usually has no symptoms, which is why it is often called the “silent killer.” Healthcare proxy information is also available.

This service is provided by St Francis Hospital Community Outreach.

Paintings by Jonathan Van Brunt 

The artist Jonathan Van Brunt’s paintings will be on display at the Main Library lower lobby from July 8 through the 26. An artist’s  reception will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 3-5 p.m. Van Brunt was born and raised in Freeport, NY, and his love of the visual arts was inspired by illustrations in the books and magazines throughout his parent’s house. HIs formal training was at both Maine College of Art, where he earned a B.F.A. in printmaking, and Ohio University School of Art, where he taught two-dimensional design and earned an M.F.A. in painting.

Socrates Salon with Conversation Host Ron Gross Online

Join the Great Neck Library for this monthly lively conversation facilitated by Ron Gross. Come share your life experiences, knowledge, and wisdom about topics that matter, as we move from small talk to Big Talk. Everyone speaks and everyone listens, because all of us are wiser than any of us. This event is held via zoom. Station Readers Society 

The Station Reader’s Society will meet at the Station Branch at 11 a.m. for a book discussion. The title for July is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, the dazzling reader-favorite about the choices that go into a life well lived, from the acclaimed author of How To Stop Time and The Comfort Book.

In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig’s enchanting blockbuster novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.

Scavenger Hunts

A number of scavenger hunts are taking place in the Great Neck libraries. In the Main Library, the scavenger hunt for the month of July will be all about birdwatching. This program will be all month long at the Main Building and no registration required. At the Parkville location, go on a summertime-themed scavenger hunt in the Parkville Branch Children’s room through the month of July. Participants will receive a prize while supplies last.
